It had been awhile since Shelby had competed in a dressage class, so it was reasonable that she felt the unmistakable pang of butterflies in her stomach. Plus, Coup had been training in dressage for a long time- but was relatively untried in competition.
Even though the weather was not unbearably hot- it was uncomfortably warm in the havy dressage coat that Shelby was wearing. Coup appeared decently comfortable though, and that was what really mattered.
As the pair was announced, Shelby took a deep breath and gave Coup a quick pat on the withers before riding him out into the outdoor arena. She tightened the reins slightly to gain a better connection with Coup's bit.
They began the test, Coup was alert and collected- his elegant body moving with both grace and power. Shelby knew that the audience would be shocked to see such a loudly marked horse performing dressage, and well at that. Coup's training was showing- each of his hooves fell with a definitive beat and he danced across the arena. Shelby felt pride bubbling up inside of her, Coup was one of the finest examples of the breed that she and the staff of Fanfare Farm had created- the Warmblood of the Americas. They were everything she had wanted: graceful and powerful, colorful but refined.
She was so proud of Coup, he worked so hard for this- and she knew that he looked so handsome right now, even if she couldn't see the full picture- just by the way that his shiny ebony mane bounced against his muscular neck in its running braid.
