The Route 66 Stakes had definitley been a challenge thus far, and even still seemed to be getting hardder and harder as the pair neared the end. Poor Classic, though an arabain and therefore naturally adapted to heat, was pure black and his coat absorbed all the sun's blistering heat. The dryness of the air at least made it slightly less stifling, but seemed to suck the moisture out of both the young stallion and his rider.
Regardless on the heat, the scenery was stunning- it was wonderful to have the opportunity to view the country from the less conventional view of horseback. Classic also seemed to enjoy the endless expanse of path to run on, for once he was able to use up his limitless energy supply. Surprisingly, Classic had not even spooked, or even cringed, once- even with all the activity going on around them. He seemed like he was born to run endurance races- and that seemed to be what they should obviously continue training him for.
Though hot, tired, and thirsty- as Shelby saw the finish line in the distance, she was glad that they had entered- the strenuous race had given her young mount valuable experience and had shown him the ropes.
